Adjusting structural tie-down system

Scandi Cabins and Scandi Homes are anchored by steel rods that secure the building to the foundation or the first layer of wall boards. Some rods extend from the top boards, rafters, or beams down through the walls and subfloor, tying the structure to the subfloor joists or bearers on raised foundations. For builds on a concrete slab, adjustment points for the steel rods are accessible at the base of the wall boards, as they are for internal walls.

After the installation is complete, the structure will settle down within a few weeks. Inspect the steel rods and tighten them up if needed after a week or so. Also, repeat inspection and adjustment of steel rods after a few months.

It is important to:

  • Hand tighten the steel rods. DO NOT overtighten by force to allow for timber expansion.
  • Make sure steel rods will have space to move down, not up as they will lift the roof if not installed properly.

Regular adjustments during the settling period will help maintain the structural integrity of your home.
